OUR ENGAGEMENT STORY – THE BEST SURPRISE 06.04.2019

This is probably one of the most exciting seasons of my life. + I get to share it with all of you! As most of you know, Max + I are engaged. But I wanted to share our story, the reason behind where he proposed, and our future plans!

It was July 4th of 2018. Max + I were on vacation with my parents in a camper they own in north Georgia. We hiked to the top of Blood Mountain, which happens to be the lowest peak on the Appalachian Trail (but it definitely doesn’t feel like the lowest peak when you are hiking for 5 hours!!!). I didn’t think twice about hiking a mountain that high, until July 4th of 2019 when Max wanted to hike this mountain again, but this time with both of our parents. We had a trip planned for all of us to vacation before Max + I made our move to Virginia.

The morning of the proposal, he told me we could do a blog shoot at the top of the mountain and if I wanted to put on make up, he would take pictures. BUT COME ON LADIES!!! we all know you can’t put on make up for a 5 HOUR HIKE?!?! That is a rule every lady should follow. You do not wear it while working out + well… this practically counts as a workout.

It felt like forever to make it to the top of the mountain. My parents, his parents, + my grandfather were all on this hike. When I would ask how much longer until the top of the mountain, Max would always reply with “a quarter of a mile” but I quickly learned that meant he actually didn’t know. I was irritated slightly (okay maybe a lot) because it seemed like he was just making up a time without actually knowing. So, once we made it to the top, I’ll admit I was in a rather bad mood. Hiking is not my go to form of exercise or fun + this felt like such a long hike. Everyone made it to the peak + were all mentioning how pretty the view was. I had my back turned to them while I tried to bring myself to a calmer state. Max came over to sit with me + talk. We stood up + he started with a phrase about how our relationship is like this mountain, there will always be highs and lows. But no matter what, if we love each other, we will always make it to the top (even if it takes a long time to get there). I then felt him reach his right hand into his pocket and said “No you’re not?”. Was this it?! He was proposing! My frustration in the hike immediately turned to overwhelming happiness that the man I love wants to spend the rest of his life with ME. I, of course, cried and happily awaited the “Will you marry me” from him! And immediately said yes!!! The day I had been dreaming of was finally here! Everyone was recording the proposal + the even popped a bottle of champagne at the top! His parents carried a backpack with all of the celebratory drinks for us to have! We shared the good news with our close friends + family first, then celebrated with everyone that night as we set off fireworks!

Of course, the climb down was the happiest part of the hike! I had the man of my dreams and some new bling to show (; I cannot wait to take you all through my entire wedding planning process! We aren’t looking to get married until the end of 2020 or beginning of 2021 to allow ourselves time to plan with family + friends while we are engaged at a long distance from everyone. I can’t wait to share with you the knowledge I find through this process!
