TAKING IT BACK TO THE BASICS – NYE RESOLUTIONS 2020

2019 was a big year of transition. Moving home after graduation + then turning around 2 weeks later to move to Virginia. Fun fact: I had never visited Richmond before I accepted my job. But I have gained some amazing friends + I truly love the city. Plus Max moved up here with me + my heart is so happy that we has finished the chapter of long distance! We are able to celebrate a new decade of adventures. We have so much good to look forward to: our wedding in 2021, getting a puppy this year (eek!!), having children (God willing He blesses us with children).

Every year we look at making resolutions of ideas we want to achieve. + I think it is great to reflect overall on a year (+ in this case a decade as well) to determine where we are in life + where we want to go. I decided this year to have one big goal for each area of my life. Something to focus on for the next year, the next decade. I call it going back to the basics, because this world offers a lot of fluff, a lot of extra items, ideas, + the notion to have to live up to where everyone else is in life. I am guilty of it too. But I’ve decided there are a few things I can do to keep myself on my track + love MY life. So here they are:

FINANCIAL

plan a budget + stick to it

Max + I sat down + created a budget which included how much we want to save for each month. I plan to log all of my expenses to make sure I stick to the budget we set. I have a lot of wedding related activities (both my wedding + a wedding I am in this year) so being on top of finances is critical right now. I hope to become more aware of the items I am purchasing, making sure they are necessary + avoid the fluff.

FITNESS + HEALTH

continue to create a consistent habit of 3-4 workouts per week

I let this area slack a bit when I started my new job. I’ve had a difficult schedule to manage with starting early in the mornings, having a large break in the middle of the day, + resuming work at the high school I work at finishing really late. After discussing an hour change, I should be able to work out consistently in the mornings taking classes I look forward to: cycling, the plank class on a megaformer ,+ adding back in ballet once a week at the studio I work at! Physical activity is always a mental boost, especially starting in the mornings!

In terms of health, I plan to make healthier choices in eating. I’ve noticed my skin breaks out often, I typically have an upset stomach, + I am always exhausted. By making better choices on food, I hope to notice a difference in each of these areas. Max + I will start a 21 day sugar detox starting on January 23rd. I plan to share each day with all of you!

LOVE

have a date night once a week

I’m not sure what day this will be each week, but it is oh so important to set aside time each week for a date night. I am purchasing the 50 Dates Book for us to do on date nights. I will do a blog on some of our favorites once we get the book! We are trying to do more affordable date nights too, so for Christmas we asked for some board games to be able to play each week!

HAPPINESS

do things that make me happy

This one is plain + simple. Each day I have to do one thing that makes me happy. Working out typically makes the cut but occasionally I let other things take precedence + forget to do something each day that makes me happy. I cannot wait to start the adult ballet classed again soon as I feel this is something I will look forward to each week!

I also plan to create more work/life balance to make certain the stress that can come with the job doesn’t spill over into every aspect of my life. Some boundaries I feel are important that I plan to implement this year is: 1) don’t feel obligated to respond to a text or call that is work related when I’m not at work. Sometimes it is necessary to answer work related messages, but with my schedule, it becomes very difficult to focus on the task at hand when I consistently allow work to run my entire day. 2) save up for trips and vacations. I have to make time for myself + my family. But most importantly, time to enjoy living life a bit.

BLOGGING

write 2-4 blog posts a month

I love sharing my experiences with you all + writing a blog post once a week will allow me to be more consistent with sharing. I love the process of taking pictures of everything life has to offer. + I hope to once day have a blog that can make money. But right now that starts with consistency.
