Trust me, I get it. Waking up early is NO FUN for anyone! But it’s true – waking up & starting your day before others sets you up for success. In this blog post, I talk about my morning routine & tips about how to stay motivated to keep up a consistent morning routine!
MY MORNING ROUTINE
Each morning I wake up about 2.5 hours before my first class starts in the morning. On M/W/F my first class is at 8:30 am & on T/Th, my first class is at 9:00 am. Once I wake up, I take about 30-45 minutes to wake up, put on my workout clothes, and prep myself for the day ahead. I usually drink a pre workout drink about 15-20 mins before I go to the gym & head to the gym with my yoga mat, iPad, workout drink, & coat (because it is absolutely freezing in the mornings here!). I usually do a 35-45 minute workout. Recently, I’ve chosen to complete the BBG program, and surprisingly, I can complete the workout early in the mornings. Once I finish my workout, I head back to my apartment, shower, and get ready for my class. I typically take this time to jam out to some songs & start my morning off on the right foot. I’ve recently followed up my workouts with a BCAA powder that I pour into a glass of water to help my muscles recover after a workout.
I’ve noticed that I truly benefit from working out early in the mornings. Not only due the obvious physical benefits, such as loosing weight or inches from my waist, but also mentally, as I’ve noticed I have more control over my emotions and reactions throughout the day. I’ve always had a difficult time in the cold weather. I tend to want to sleep more often & get sad really easily when I lock myself in my room. But with constant workouts, I’ve been able to fight off that feeling a bit easier. I notice that I start my mornings off on a positive note and generally sleep better at night as well.
SET OUT CLOTHES THE NIGHT BEFORE
This allows for the morning to be easy & without thought. By picking out an outfit the night before, you eliminate any confusion or question on what to wear or how to put it together. Also, by choosing cute workout outfits, you are more inclined to workout harder. While this isn’t statistically proven, I’m a firm believer that a cute workout outfit totally makes the workout.
CREATE A PLAYLIST THAT PUMPS YOU UP
I don’t know about you, but for me, I MUST workout to music. So starting a playlist before working out puts me in the right mindset & gets me motivated!
HAVE AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER
I can’t say I am the best with this… but my accountability partner is my boyfriend. We usually try to wake up around the same time & encourage each other to workout to start off the morning. If we’re being honest, he likes to hit the snooze button a little too much (: But having someone to encourage you & motivate you is helpful!
DO NOT HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON
This one can be so hard for some of us. I’ll admit that once I am awake, there is no turning back. So this task is a little easier for me than for others. However, if you put your phone on the other side of the room at night, you are forced to physically get up & out of bed, making it less likely to go back to sleep.
ADD SOMETHING INTO YOUR MORNING ROUTINE THAT INSPIRES YOU
This could be a daily devotional, a morning journal, or meditation. Whatever you love to do, implement it into your morning routine & keep it going. It will start your day off on a great note & a positive attitude in the morning can make all the difference in the rest of your day.
