This post is for those who are looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day idea for at home! If you want to spend the day/night in but want it to still be a special day, then look no further! I’ve added some critical steps to making the perfect Valentine’s Day picnic:
Prep the Space
To first step to create a Valentine’s Day picnic is to find a location in your house that has enough room for food + whomever will be joining you. If it is a date night with your significant other, for example, you don’t need as much room as you would for a Galentine’s group of 5. So pick a space that can fit everyone comfortably.
Feel free to leave the space empty or decorate with some flowers as I did with the accent flower wall! This was such an easy DIY project + if you are interested in seeing how I created the flower wall, you can watch this link here. To put it simply, buy flowers from a local store (I chose a wholesale store so I could pick out individual flowers instead of bouquets). Cut the flower stems to a length of your preference + use some sort of project tape. The one I used can be purchased for $1.50 here.
Set Up the Basics
Every picnic has to have a blanket (orrrr a few)! Grab some of your favorite blankets + lay them out in different directions to give that mismatched feel. Tip: The bigger the blankets, the fewer you need to use. Find a low table or a basket + place it upside down in the middle of the blankets. I personally chose two wooden palette boxes that I use to hold workout equipment because they were the perfect height! Place a smaller blanket or table cloth/runner over the low table or basket to create a clean canvas to decorate. If you will be eating + drinking, now is the time to get fancy! So set out a nice set of plates + cocktail or wine glasses! Since my setup was for a date night, I chose wine glasses but champagne glasses would be perfect if you set up a mimosa station!
Food + Beverages
The food + beverage choices can fit whatever theme you choose. For example, if you choose to have a brunch for Galentine’s, you could opt for a Mimosa Station with different juice choices + a mix of breakfast foods. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, you have a wide range of choices! If you choose to do lunch, pick something lighter on the stomach such a mini sandwiches with a fruit + veggie platter. I chose to do a dinner set up so appetizers are a must + who doesn’t love a charcuterie board?! *This was actually my first every charcuterie board + I was really surprised at how it turned out! We followed it up with pizza (very romantic, right?) + had wine with our meal. Use this area to showcase your strengths with cooking or turn to Pinterest to create a food board that is drool-worthy.
It’s All About the Details
Once you have set up the basic layout + you have decided on the food + beverages to serve, it is time to move onto the details! This is my favorite part of the set up because I am very detail oriented but it doesn’t require a lot of work. For my picnic, I wanted a romantic dinner, so I set up floating candles + tea light candles around our low table. *Tip: adding a few flowers or greenery can transform a small space by bringing color + texture! If you are hosting a boho event, you could look into adding a rug with a unique print, a larger plant, throw in a peacock chair, or add some market lighting.
A picnic is the perfect at home solution for anyone looking to have fun without going out. Let me know what you think about the picnic below (:

4 years ago AUTHORHi Sandra! Thanks too much for your kind words about the flower wall! I had the wall up for approximately 1 week and I made sure to be careful when peeling the tape so I did not have any problems but I would not recommend using this tape for long term use for example with fake flowers if you planned on keeping the wall like this for months!

4 years agoWhat a great idea! I was especially intrigued by your flower wall and watched the video. The question I have is: does the tape peel the paint off the wall when you remove it?
